About this opportunity

A bit about us

Looking for the ultimate RVN work life balance while doing work that truly matters?

If you are burnt out by weekend rotas, endless client sales targets, or late-night emergencies, step into a role where your clinical skills literally save lives.

At RSPCA Blackberry Farm, you’ll leave behind the pressure of general practice to focus entirely on what you came into this profession to do: providing world-class, compassionate care to domestic animals who need a second chance.

At the RSPCA, we are a team of compassionate, committed people who truly care about making a difference. Blackberry Farm Animal Centre sits at the frontline of animal welfare, providing a safe haven for domestic animals who have often come from difficult or traumatic backgrounds.

Set within the beautiful Buckinghamshire countryside, our Blackberry farm site offers a calm and supportive environment where both animals and people can thrive. You’ll be part of an enthusiastic and dedicated team who genuinely care about every animal that comes through our doors, working together to give them the time, patience, and support they need.

This isn’t just about treating clinical conditions. It’s about patience, understanding and helping animals learn to trust again. Working closely with our team, you’ll play a vital role in supporting each animal’s emotional recovery as well as their physical health, helping them feel safe, confident and ready for a second chance.

Our recruitment journey – key dates for you to note

We believe in keeping things clear and supportive. Here’s what to expect:

  • Application
  • You’ll be asked a few targeted questions to help us understand your experience, skills, and what you can bring to the role.
  • Panel Interview & Site Visit
  • If shortlisted, you’ll be invited to meet the Hiring Manager and Deputy for a competency-based interview, along with a tour of the centre.

We’ll include some scenario-based discussions around animal handling and welfare—this is a chance for you to share your approach and thought process.

This stage is also your opportunity to:

  • Get a feel for the team and environment
  • See the impact of the work first-hand
  • Ask questions and explore whether this role is right for you

What a day might look like for you

No two days at Blackberry are the same. As a Registered Veterinary Nurse, you’ll be a key part of both the veterinary and wider centre team.

Your day could include:

  • Running the day-to-day operations of the vet suite alongside the vet, ensuring smooth communication across the centre
  • Creating and delivering tailored patient care plans, from routine health checks to emergency triage
  • Preparing for and monitoring anaesthesia and delivering high standards of perioperative care
  • Carrying out imaging and laboratory diagnostics
  • Assessing pain using validated tools and applying the Five Domains model to support both physical and emotional wellbeing
  • Working alongside the Behaviour Team to support low-stress handling and help animals build confidence and trust
  • Supporting colleagues, fosterers and adopters with advice and guidance throughout the animal’s journey.

What will help you succeed in this role:

  • Registered Veterinary Nurse (RVN) with current RCVS registration
  • Experience in practice, an animal centre, or wildlife rehabilitation
  • A genuine passion for animal welfare and a calm, compassionate approach
  • Emotional resilience, including the ability to support animals through challenging situations and end-of-life care
  • Confidence working independently, making evidence-based decisions and maintaining high clinical standards
  • Full manual driving licence

Successful candidates for certain RSPCA roles will need to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Applicants must have the legal right to work in the UK – We are unable to sponsor visas at RSPCA

Final note from us & good luck with your application!

We want to ensure we do all we can to give you a positive candidate experience through our recruitment. Whilst we do try to give feedback where we can, sometimes due to receiving high levels of applications, this may not always be possible

Our vision is a world where all animals are respected and treated with kindness and compassion. Our purpose is to inspire everyone to create a better world for animals. We are building the future of a diverse Society, and our priority is to support animal welfare by finding people from all backgrounds who are committed to our purpose. For this reason we actively encourage a wide diversity of applications – in particular from members of minority ethnic groups, and people with disabilities – as these candidates are currently under-represented at the RSPCA. Your transferable skills & lived experiences could make you a valuable addition to our RSPCA Family!

We’re here to support you and encourage you to let us know if you need any adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process. Please feel free to contact us so we can ensure the process works for you.
