About this opportunity

Front of House Hospitality Assistant

£13,988 per annum (£27,976 FTE, pro rata) + benefits | The Hub, Mulberry Park, Bath

Part Time | Permanent | 20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends

Your Welcome. Our Hub. A Community That Feels at Home.

The Hub isn’t your average café. It’s a community building at the heart of Mulberry Park, Foxhill and Combe Down, and it’s where the whole neighbourhood meets. In one shift you might make a flat white for a new parent, set up a room for a business meeting and serve Sunday roast to a table of regulars.

We take pride in what we serve. Our coffee comes from Wogan Coffee, a family roaster in Bristol. Most of our cakes are from the Cake Architect in Bradford on Avon. And our food hygiene rating is five stars.

This is a permanent role in a settled team. You’ll get to know regulars by name, train as a barista and build skills you can grow with.

What you’ll be doing

  • Welcoming everyone who comes in, whether they’re here for the café, a class, a meeting or an office visit

  • Rotating between the till, the coffee machine and the floor, serving food and drinks (including alcohol) inside and out

  • Training to barista standard, so every coffee does our suppliers justice

  • Setting up the café, outdoor seating and meeting rooms, including moving furniture, so the space looks its best

  • Supporting meetings and events, from welcoming guests and serving refreshments to helping set up IT

  • Handling enquiries in person, by phone, email and social media, and putting things right when feedback comes in

  • Ordering stock, keeping the space clean and following food safety and allergen rules, working closely with the kitchen team

Working pattern: 20 hours a week on a rota that includes evenings and weekends. You’ll get your rota two weeks in advance.

What you’ll get in return

Beyond a salary of £13,988 (£27,976 FTE, pro rata) and the chance to make a real difference every day, you’ll get:

  • 26 days annual leave per year (plus bank holidays) rising to 29 days after 3 years, pro rata

  • Your birthday off as an extra holiday

  • Up to 10% matched pension contribution

  • Flexible benefits which might include a Health Cash Plan

  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for your own wellbeing

More about you

You take pride in looking after people properly and you’re someone your team can count on. You’re happy to turn your hand to whatever the shift needs and you’re looking for a role you can settle into and grow with.

Essential:

  • Experience of working front of house in a busy hospitality or leisure setting, such as a café, restaurant, bar, hotel or leisure centre

  • Experience of taking payments using a till or card machine

  • A friendly, confident manner with all kinds of people, face to face, by phone and by email

  • A flexible, hands-on approach and the ability to stay calm and organised under pressure

  • A positive, team-focused approach. You pull your weight and help make The Hub a good place to work.

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends on a rota

  • Comfortable with the active side of the role, including standing for long periods and moving furniture. We’ll make reasonable adjustments where needed.

Desirable:

  • Barista training or experience making hot drinks to a high standard

  • Experience serving alcohol responsibly, or a Personal Licence

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate (or equivalent)
